Memorial to the Fallen

Eventually, Allied forces succeeded in pushing the Germans back to their original positions. They also more importantly inflicted the heavy casualties that proved to be the fatal blow for Hitler, and soon after marched into Germany to finish the war.

The overseas cemeteries for the war dead have a quiet, solemn grandeur, but to see the raw, earthen graves after hostilities, untended, quickly dug, is sobering and troubling.
